I didn't see your post from last month but that is what I did, pulled the plugs and turned the motor by hand. I got between 93 and 95 across the board on the one I purchased.

Macho Man! I have the engine on my bench and not secured down that was as much force as I felt safe going with.

Motor and attachments. They could not sell the whole car.

That's good you got the PS Pump, Alternator, etc.

Do replace that old timing belt unless you have written proof that it's been done. You can take the belt off of your other car if it's newish.

Oh, I'd only move that stuff if it has less than 30,000 on it.

Last night I pulled off the starter, ps pump, alt, a/c compressor, and intake mani. The goal is to clean up the block, replace the pcv, change the timing belt and water pump (while its out why not?), Paint the intake, block off the Egr and reassemble.

Just use the intake and exhaust form the '96 and there will be no need to block off or deal with EGR.

I painted my intake (black) and part of my cam cover (black). I'd like to black out my motor compartment. I'd like to get this look... (Dreaming... LOL)

I have a broken stud at the downpipe flange I pulled the turbo off last night. I do not plan on swapping out the exhaust manifold after the hard time the turbo gave me, I do not want to break off any studs and cause a problem where none exists now. I am going to cap off the fitting for the EGR pipe on the manifold and call it a day. I use intake of the 96 and lose all the EGR crap up front.

As for engine paint I plan on using caliper paint as it more resistant to heat and a little cheaper. The p/o had painted the spark plug cover to match the mirrors so that has to go.
