Default Radio code question

I've had to punch in the code for the radio in our '97 850 before and don't remember having any difficulty with it. Anyway, I had to let the radio reset itself this time until it said "Code" again. The guy at the dealership gave me the code and told me how to get the radio to reset itself. Anyway, when I punch in the 4-digit code the display says "EEEE". Is there a procedure or position the key needs to be in to get this to work right? I've tried it with the key on the 1st click position, and also with the engine running. I did a search for radio code on the forum but couldn't find the info I'm looking for.
Thanks for any help!

Default RE: Radio code question

Have him get you the code from the Numbers on the Radio itself.

How did you obtain the security code for your radio?

From your local Volvo dealership, using your car's VIN?

Using the "PULL" tabs, slide out your radio and read the radio's serial number. Your local dealership should be able to provide the correct security code.

Default RE: Radio code question

Hello djbaines,

Greetings from Chicagoland.

Have you checked the radio itself? Mine had the code written in magic marker. If not, as Mr. Robert213 says, the dealer should be able to get you the code. No, the position of the ignition switch shouldn't matter.

If you succeed in getting the radio decoded, make sure to write it on the radio itself, unless you're concerned of thieves.

Good luck and Happy New Year.
