rear springs for a sedan?

rear springs for a sedan?
So I plan to install a trailer hitch, and it looks like there are 2 options for increasing the spring capacity in the rear.
1. Use spring made for a wagon, or
2. Order the heavy duty spings.
Maybe these are the same springs? Are there heavy duty wagon springs too? I plan to use the hitch for bicycles, maybe a cargo tray. Now we have two boys, so I'll be using the hitch when the car is fully loaded and there are backseat occupants. I trying to buy a few years (or months) untill we get a minivan. We love the 850.
Anyone had experience beefing up their 850 sedan.
Thanks

RE: rear springs for a sedan?
Hi jnduke
I recently upgraded the rear suspension on my 850 Volvo T5R. I purchased a Volvo towbar made for a s70/v70 and got the original volvo wiring loom as well. To replace the rear suspension was a piece of cake. I used a trolly jack and jacked under the Towbar tongue area, raised the rear end right up, undid the shocks and the springs just popped out, replaced in reverse order. Lowered car and job done. Now as to the spings and shocks. I used a heavy duty spring made by King Springs and Koni adjustable shocks, these were short stroked. Making the rear end stiff. As I tow a trailer for fire wood it works great.

Hey Arzy
How did you figure out what spring to get? I was over their website and I couldn't find springs for the 850. I want to beef up my springs on my 850 wagon for similar reasons.
Do you have a part number or did someone guide you to the proper spring?
Please let us know.

RE: rear springs for a sedan?
The springs were a special build, on the invoice the item no is SPVR-545, They came in a box with King Springs on it. Not sure if this is any help. I bought these of a mate who no longer wanted a stiff rear end. He was mates with the place he bought them from. They came from ROVPARTS, 90 Muller Road, Hampstead Gardens, South Australia. Phone 08 83691322. They were $100 AU each. I noticed when I fitted them that they are a lot heavier and the spring is thicker than the original T5r spings. Coupled up to Koni adjustables them being short stroked makes the rear end good and stiff for towing and great for handling.

Hey Arzy thats for the info and part number.
I also wanted to ask about the hitch. Is that a class II or Class III hitch, meaning does the receiver have a 2" square or the smaller 1.25"? What wiring harness did you get?
I want to get a hitch with the 2" asI have many stingers to into the receiver. Woule want to be sure to get the proper wiring harness.
Thanks

RE: rear springs for a sedan?
The towbar is a genuine Volvo one. It has a plate on it S70/V70, The tongue is a square shape that is removable. The tongue piece is quite large it slides in 10 inch or so, the size of the square is 2 inch. The wiring loom is also genuine volvo, which makes installing it a breeze. The loom simply plugs into spade connectors already on your rear tail lights. There is no need to cut and shut any wires. The genuine towbar replaces the last exhaust hanger, The tow bar is rated at 1600 Kg's. Hope this is of some help.
