Default Removing the intake

Hey guys...I need to replace my starter and it sounds like the best way to get at it is to remove the intake. It looks like it's just a couple bolts on the engine block to remove it. Is there anything I need to be aware of when I remove it? Is there a gasket I need to replace? Also, Does anybody have any pics of a starter replacement? Thanx

Go to the Frequently Used Thread which is a sticky at the top. Look at the PCV one and it will tell you how to remove the intake manifold with pictures. Not sure I've seen anything on the actual starter though. Once the intake is off, I think it should be pretty straight forward though.

It is easier if intake is removed, normal way to do it is to remove the fan shroud. There is a support bracket, for the old type of starter needs to be unbolt as well.

+1

Pulling the fan/shroud assembly is less work than pulling the intake manifold. Once out of the way it's pretty straight forward...

Thanx guys...My starter is getting very noisy and sometimes seems as it doesn't quite have enough to turn the engine over. I think it's definately on borrowed time.

Sure it's not just your battery? In me experience starters either work or they don't.

Yes, the battery is a few years old but, I do have a battery tester and it shows as ok. The starter itself is a bit noisy and the maintenance records show, from the previous owner, that the starter may need to be replaced soon.
