Service Light

Service Light
When I start my 1990 850 non turbo the service light comes on. It goes off in just after a few minutes of driving. What i have noticed is that it seems to go off after the oil pressure gauge reaches a certain point. I have been trying to watch for changes and have noticed that the oil pressure is taking longer to get up to the point where the light will cut off. Could this be a oil sending unit going bad, or how about a clogged oil pump. I switched to synthetic oil a while back and was told that the new oil may cause burn off in the cylinder, which would then get into the oil pan and possibly clog pump. Is this a possiblilty ? If not, what does anyone think.

RE: Service Light
1990 850
Ther service light is basically a "change your oil" light. The way to reset it depends on the year of the car. To the best of my knowledge there is no such thing as a 1990 850. Europe got them in 1992 and North America in 1993. None of my 850's have an oil pressure guage either so I'm not sure what that is about.

RE: Service Light
Yup, that is your "take it to the dealer" light, depending on the year only they can reset the light. It will come on for two minutes when you first start the car. It is programmed to come on every 5,000 miles for turbo cars and every 10,000 miles for non turbo cars. It means change your oil.

No need to take it to the dealer, you can reset the light following these instructions at the below link. I have dome ours several times. http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/reset.php
