Can I reset the service light before it goes on?
AS some of you already know I amgivingmyVolvo 850 Turbo to my daughter in Montreal, I want to change the oil (mobile 5000 10w30) and filter (Mann) before I leave. At the same time I would like to reset the service lightbut it's not on yet.
is it feasable??

Yes it will reset before it comes on.
I reset the light on every car I do an oil change on. Whether it is on or off.

My GUESS is yes.

It counts down from say 3k... if it's at 500 right now, the logic might read

miles_before_zero=500

if miles_before_zero >0
service_light=off
else
service_light=on


So if it's at 500, you reset it, it jumps from 'whatever' (500) back to the full 3000/5000. =)

 

As Tech has said, you can reset the counter before the light comes on. I do mine every oil change as well
