Slightly irratic cold start idle
On my '96 850R, on cold starts (ambient temp anywhere bet. 8 deg and approx 45 deg), the engine starts just fine, but the idle fluctuates slightly between 1,200 rpm and 600ish. It will do this for a minute or two, then it will level out. The idle drops just low enough to dim the lights, etc. What do you think, IAC problem? Should I remove the IAC and clean it? Or do you lean more to a vacuum leak? My car has 62k on it, and I am planning on doing a full maintenance on the PCV system soon, so I will be replacing all vacuum lines, etc related to that system.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Sorry for the delay in responce. I've had some seriousfamily health issues and my priorities just haven't been to check on here.
I will check and or clean the throttle body and idle motor as you stated. No, the CEL is not on.
I noticed the car does still have the original spark plug wires. I haven't checked that spark plugs yet, but the car has a new timing belt, flue pump, air filter, etc., so it appears that it had a 60k done just before I bought it. I am going to be ordering the plug wires soon. I am also going to go ahead and order all of the PCV stuff and replace it all within the next month or two (preventative so I know it's been done).
Thanks for the advice! I'll let you know how that works out.

Hi,
Also, don't forget the cap & rotor, fuel filter, and a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner. As for plugs, I went with Bosch platinum twin, but you would be happy with any of the following:
1. Genuine Volvo
2. Bosch Platinum Twin or Quad Electrode
3. Champion (was noted either in the owner's guide or Haynes)
4. Bosch Iridium
Good luck,
JPN
