Default speed sensor codes

hi,
I own a 1997 volvo 850 glt. For the past couple months my speedometer has been every erratic and will only work 15% of the time. After much research on the forums i pointed it down the abs module, which i ordered from bba reman a couple days ago. However, yesterday my check engine light came on and stayed on. I took it to advance auto to get the obdII reading and it came up speed sensor. The abs nor the tracs light are on, although even with the key in position II the lights are still out, which makes me think the previous owner took, the bulbs out. Could the bad abs cause speed sensor error codes? i just dont want to have to order a new speed sensor if its just my bad abs module.
These forums are exellent, i know if anyone could help me out it would be you guys.
Thanks, weston.

You might have to clear the engine light. When you get the ABS module back that should be all clear of codes.

places like auto zone and such will not clear it (unless you know a good buddy who works there, or something, but technically they do not allow it).

stop by that local euro mechanic that u borrowed the e5 from and he will prolly clear it for you. if not you can try just leaving the batter off for a while, that may or may not clear it.

no problem. if just pick your self up a scaner if you can spare the cash. i bought the $125-$150 ish one from autozone and love it. gives you live updated readings of all the sensors and stuff to. well worth the investment. can use it on any obdII
