95 850 wagon, had a squeek squeek noise from right front. Could rotate the top of the front strut with my hand. I was told spring seat is torn. Removed the whole right side strut, had my favorite garage replace that seat with a new one (car rides nice- didnt change shocks), the seat was torn. put it all back in. Easy peasy. first day- quiet, second day- pretty quiet third day hmm I'm hearing something. well week and a half in and it is just about as loud as it was before. squeek squeek squeek. im taking it over next week see if we can determine whats up. could that cross shaped nut have loosened I wonder... Thoughts- any Volvoi-tes? Dave

 

that or the strut bearing plate is bad.

 

ibified- Well the strut mount seemed ok, didnt seem to have play in it, rotated smoothly. Guess its more a errrrrrrrrrrr errrr errrrrrrrrrrrrrr kinda sound, as far as written sounds go. Dave

 

if the bearings in the strut bearing plate are bad, it'll make a noise like that.

 

+1 on the Strut mount..

 

On the spring seats you want to go OEM or better (IPD makes some HD ones) and for the strut top bearing make sure you go OEM; don't repeat my mistake and have to do it again right away.
