Steering Rack Question
Just found out from the dealership that I have a cracked valve in my steering rack and that fluid is dripping out at a rapid pace. I was quoted $1054 for the entire job, 1/2 parts, 1/2 labor.
I park my car outside and I never saw a puddle of any kind -- I find it ironic that the day I bring it in to have brake work done, this problem arises.
That said, my 1996 850 GLT has 105K miles on it and is paid off.
Does $1K sound right for this job, and is it worth doing or should I explore selling my car instead? It will be $2K including the brake work.
Thanks,
Dave

First try to find the leak yourself.
If there is a valve bad in the rack it should only affect the steering it should not be leaking.
Do you ever notice that it needs fluid? Does it make funny noises?
It is kind of a pain to replace because you have to drop the back half of the subframe.
Check out those other things and let me know.
