Stereo LCD illumination?
Is there a bulb for the LCD panel on the CD stereo? I just replaced the switch for the #4 preset in the stereo and there are 5-6 bulbs and was wondering if one of those is supposed to illuminate the LCD panel?
Some of the bulbs are dead because only half of the face of the stereo lights up. I just don't know if when I replace all those bulbs if the lcd will be lit up as well.
Also, are the positions of the shifter supposed to be lit up? If so, are these the same type bulbs in the instrument cluster and radio?

There is a lamp dedicated to the LCD display but it is a solder job to replace it. You first need to remove the face plate as though you are getting to the back-light display lamps and then remove the metal frame that surrounds the LCD display itself.
Be careful not to damage the LCD display in the process.
Once the frame is out of the way it will reveals the bad lamp, it will have a blue lens filter over it in most cases.
Unsolder the lamp and solder the new one in, a Radio Shack pn 272-1092 lamp will work, 2 for around $2.00.

Thanks for the info Lee.
I will save that for the same day I work on the abs module. It will be a solder day.....heh!
Lee, I see from you sig you kinda like Volvo's. This is my first and ,just a week in, I love mine. It is just as much solidly built and a "machine" as my earlier Porsche 944 Turbo and 930. Gotta love German and Swedish engineering.

This paper considers the problem of shape-from-shading using nearby extended light sources. The paper reviews a number of methods that employ nearby illuminants, and describes a new technique that assumes a rectangular planar nearby distributed uniform isotropic illuminant. It is shown that such a light source illuminating a small Lambertian surface patch is equivalent to a single isotropic point light source at infinity, in the absence of shadowing. A closed-form solution is given for the equivalent point light source direction in terms of the illuminant corner locations. Equivalent point light sources can be obtained for distinct illuminant patterns allowing standard photometric stereo algorithms to be used. An extension is given to the case of a rectangular planar illuminant with arbitrary radiance distribution. Experimental results are shown demonstrating the application of the theory to photometric stereo using illumination from a LCD computer monitor. Details on the photometric calibration of the illumination source and image acquisition device are provided.
