Tailgate will not latch

When I shut the tailgate it will no longer latch. Just started today. 151,900 miles.

I had this problem last year. I had to have one of my friends ride in the suicide seat and hold it down. I fixed it by playing around with the door latch. Not sure what I did, I just poked it for a while and it eventually worked.
