Disassembled Tailgate Latch
In the picture below, I've taken apart my tailgate latch which stopped working on Sunday. It appears that the plastic piece on the lower right (with the spring) is supposed to pull the locking metal part over which swings it out of the way. Anyway, the plastic piece has fallen completely apart and therefore the lock/latch stays closed always.
Is there a way to repair this without buying a whole new tailgate latch (~$140 or $160 depending on the chassis number from FCP Groton)?

Thanks for the reply Tech. I think I'll try calling the junkyards again and see if any of them have acquired any Volvos yet. Last time they acted like I was crazy for asking.

That is because they would rather sella whole good door with the switch in place. The chance of the switch surviving a rear ender is remote, they just crush the door.
Do you have a machinist friend, that could make an aluminum one from the parts?

I was refering to asking if they had any Volvo's on their lots. I guess Volvo's don't make it to junkyards around me very frequently.
I don't have a machinist friend (that I know of). I work with engineers and a lot of them have odd skills and tools available, but I don't know of any that could do that for me.
