My tailgate will not open. I am able to bang the outside and get it to latch tightly, whcih stops the rattle. Then, I can feel some action when I pull on the latch, but less than normal. I am then unable to open the gate at all.

Does anyone have any experience with this? This is a 1994 850 wagon with 200,000 miles.

More details. Does it lock and unlock just fine? Can you open it from the inside? Childlock work? etc.

 

THe tailgate does not open at all. The automatic locks do work on all doors and the tailgate; I can hear the lock working. In the past, I had an issue where the latch didn't fully engage, and I had the tailgate rattle. I learned that if it shut firmly, the latch would engage properly.

Also, when I engage the handle, the tailgate does disengage perhaps 1/4 inch, just enohg to rattle. I am able to give the gate a sharp rap on the licesnse plate, and this causes the latch to full engage and stop the rattle.
