Ticking sounds, o-rings questions???
I've got the common ticking sound thing going on, ticks on cold start for a few minutes then smooths out but then ticks intermittently from the valve area. Does this sound like bad O-rings from poor oil circulation? If yes then how many do I need to order? Is it a easy job to pull the pan, pump, etc? I've got a 94 855 T w/144k
Any help advice much appreciated!

RE: Ticking sounds, o-rings questions???
I just got the car last Tues and drove a few hundred freeway miles to drive it home. It hasn't used any significant amount of oil at all. I might investigate the oil pump seals but would like to know if I have to remove the oil pump to do so. This morning i noticed that after some time it's not as bad, say after driving it for 20 or so minutes I let it idle to see if the noise would come back and it didn't immediatly at least. Maybe I should listen to it linger at idle speed. I'm pretty sure the car hasn't had any deep engine work so far.

RE: Ticking sounds, o-rings questions???
It does kind of sound like the o-rings to me.If you buy the parts from the dealer they give you a kit to replace all of them.It isn't that expensive for the kit.I think it is less than $20.00.
It isn't that hard to do.Doing at home and with hand tools taking your time might take you half a saturday.
Patrick: On your moms car the Valves might need to be adjusted.

The oil pump it attached to the front of the crank.Once you drop the oil pan then remove the oil pick up tube and replace that o-ring as well as the ones on the oil pan. Then becareful putting the pan back on so one doesn't drop.Don't forget you need a special sealer for the oil pan.I also use a little to hold the o-rins into place. Some people use grease.

RE: Ticking sounds, o-rings questions???
There is either 3 or five of them.I think on your car just 3.Some have a cross over tube in the oil pan.But I think the 850 just has the 3.I would try to buy the sealer from the dealer. It is a thin sealer that seals then there is no air on the sealer. It is not like a gasket maker or something like that.
Im sorry you should also replace the turbo return line o-ring and the dipstick tube o-ring.
