Top of the engine too ya!
Hey this is the second time i changed my plugs. and i have noticed that their is a substantial amount of oil in the tops of the first 3 cylinders where the spark plug goes. Is this because of something else going on or is this part of the pcv system. New to volvos , and really new to turbos. oh, i have 2.3 with an 18 t turbo. only upgrade is a the master blaster and the oversized wire to the rotor.
Your collective knowledge on my car would be awesome. also how do you fix the dang door when it wont lock.

Your PCV system may well be due for a service but it may also be simply your oil filler cap seal.
Try the rubber glove on your oil filler opening test. It should not inflate but show signs of suction. (caution - dont suck it into the motor)
A failing or clogged up PCV system can result in camseals, crankshaft seals and the rear main seals on the motor leaking eventually.

Per the above answer are you noticing oil coming from the oil cap and soaking the valve cover ??
If you do it can be a bad gasket or a sign the PCV system is redistricted or clogged. The glove test will tell you if there is pressure pushing the oil out or not. If it's pressurized even a new cap gasket won't help.
If it's noticeable from the oil filler cap you likely have worn plug wires too In good shape they should seal the spark plug tube form moisture and oil.
If you don't notice and leakage for the oil fill cap it's possible you have a leak between sections of the "valve cover" and head. It's not really a valve cover but if you look at a parts diagram you'll see the sections of the cam carrier and how it might leak. It's much more likely that on this engine it's seeping down the tube rather then seeping laterally into the tube between the castings. BUT , , , that can happen and you'd have to take it apart and replace the "O" rings. There is no "valve cover gasket" as most of us understand it.

martinsmash , are you talking about oil down inside the tube or puddling under the plastic cover where the ignition wires run ??
