Default Vacuum smoke test

Iv'e got a P0172 code and want to eliminate any chance of vacuum leaks before changing out any sensors or other expensive parts. My question is I have a smoke detector for vacuum leaks but I'm not sure where to hook it up. Can anyone give me any detailed directions? "96" glt N/A. Thanks.

I would plug it up to the vacuum tree at the throttle body.

Most likely the problem is going to be the 6" rubber hose that is back by the fuel filter or the vent line on top of the tank.

RSPI does "YUK" mean almost impossible to get to? Iv'e tried propane on vacuum connections in engine compartment without any rise or fall in RPMS.So I am going to try the smoke test in case I missed something. Didn't know where else to check for vacuum leaks.

Doesn't sound as easy as a vacuum elbow at the vacuum tree near the manifold or something like that.

The vacuum tree is the easiest place to test from.

What I am pointing out is that there is a hose back by the fuel filter that is part of the evap system. It gets brittle and breaks and causes the code your experiencing. Also, there is a vent hose on top of the tank that cracks. For that one you have to drop the tank. Not extremely hard but time consuming and there are always spiders or spider webs up there. One of mine had a nice juicy black widow living up there.
