Default Volvo 850 electrical malfunction

Hi All,

I am new here, sorry for the new thread.
So the input: Volvo 855 TDi
I have got a strange malfunction (actually 2 types, and both comes up often but not always):
- when the engine just started the traction control and abs indicators are active AND the turn signal does not work AND the headlights do not work. Sometimes a restart solves it sometimes not.
- when I use the car and stop it for 5-15 minutes it wont start. I mean no starter motor sound at all. Just the indicator leds are active.
- and also some other strange anomalies like: the gauge cluster not working at all, sometimes just the speedo not working.

I know it's strange, but I am in hope one of you just met the problem.

Thanks a lot

That problem is usually caused by a bad electrical portion of the ignition switch - the accessory portion of the switch gets a bad connection. You can simulate the problem by turning the key very slightly clockwise with the engine running and having the stuff not work, or conversely when it happens turn the key back very slightly. They usually malfunction worse if the interior is hot after sitting in the sun. A new ignition switch solves the problem

The starting problem may simply be solved with with a new starter - i have seen them fail to start when they are hot, and work normally once cooled. When it happens try to get cold water on the starter (if possible) to see if that shortens the cool down time.
