Volvo 850 transmission issues... HELP PLEASE!

But as for 262740850, you made me go dig out my manual .
Cold transmission: oil temp 105F or 40C. This is a normal temp after idling for about 10 minutes. At temps below 105F or 40C the level may be below the MIN mark.
Warm transmission: oil temp 169F or 80C. This temperature is reached after driving for about 30 minutes. At oil temperatures above 190F or 90C the level may be above the MAX mark.
Remember you should never be able to see the inside of your transmission from the outside !!

slimflex2, if you're going to copy my advise and good wishes at least give me credit (just kidding)

Solenoid Problems
The solenoid controls the flow of fluid throughout the transmission. Many times, the solenoid can become damaged because of insufficient fluid levels or other electronic problems with the solenoid. Problems with the solenoid are usually similar to those of inadequate fluid levels or fluid leaks. If your vehicle’s transmission is slipping and there are no leaks, the solenoid is the next item that you should check.
Found this info while reading a page on transmissions, what do you buddies think of it? Know where it's located?

I will add one thing, went for a second run about 2 hours later, the first 2 minutes the car was actually accelerating nicely.... then it became gradually pretty much like the old sluggish way. Seems to me that as the tranny is warming up, slippage increases. Hopefully the fluid will gradually makes things better.... who knows.... ??? Anyhow... if not improving soon I will take it to a transmission shop to see what they have to say!

I think the tranny is shot! Fluid change must have killed it.
I read also the Mobil 1 Synthetic should not be used for this tranny so I am lost because I keep hearing different stories....

At least he didn't say "shoot it" and with our zero tolerance policy we'd have to suspend his posting privileges for this school year.
Take it to a transmission shop and have a free diag done. If needed maybe spend a couple bucks to have them hook up gauges and see if it's at the right pressure.
Driving it as is could be doing damage that is preventable and maybe you'd want to spend a hundred or two for a part like a shift solenoid if it brought back proper function.
If it's a bunch of bucks, yes then drive it into the ground and if you choose take that time to be looking and saving for a replacement.
I've seen posts by Volvo techs warning of Mobil 1 but I've seen plenty of guys running it without any problem. The transmission wasn't designed for synthetic but synthetic that is backwards compatible with Dexron III (you know this already) should work just fine.
Be happy, every day since 12-21-12 is just pure luck.

Will look for a shop around here asap. Thanks!

you might want to go to the tranny shop for diagnose before spending more money on it. if you are hundred percent sure its pressure related and want to change the solenoid, change it and see if that helps. l use mobil 1 and havent had a problem. my tranny shifts into first gear and thats the only gear l can slightly feel when it changes. shift has improved since l changed to synthetic.
