So some smoke started coming out of the steering column on my 850 (not a good start I know!) and after that my turn signal, hazard and high beam stopped working. The check engine light came on even though there were no DTC codes and the ABS light flashes intermittently. I've removed the steering column cover as well as the footwell cover but cannot see any burnt wires.I did a full DTC reset and the check engine light has now turned off unless it could just be the result of my moving the wires around in the engine well. ABS light no longer flickering either. But when the turn signal switch is moved signalling left or right the check engine light turns on and it sounds like something is shorting somewhere.

Obviously I have an electrical issue. Having read others' similar issues in the forum I'm thinking it could be a fried relay? hazard switch? From what I have read the hazard switch acts as the relay for the turn signal and flasher so it could be the cuIprit although that's not where the smoke was coming from... I doubt it's the actual turn signal switch that is fried but could be that. Any ideas before I start replacing all these parts. I will also go through the wiring diagram and try to troubleshoot there as well. I have checked all the fuses and bulbs.
