Wow, this thread has more twists and turns than an 850 intake manifold..

Guys, these analogies you're throwing around aren't really applicable. For one, liquids like milk and H2O (for the most part) are not compressible, unlike air, which of course is. So you can't really compare the two.

Bottom line: do a dyno run before and after the mod, then show us the data. Seat of the pants feedback is very subjective.

I found a dyno place near me. I'm willing to take this step by step since I have no life, oh, wait, I have no money either. LOL I'll find out the cost and pass the hat.

Just to let some of you guys know, I pulled some cams from a '94 NA and they had the same exact part number as the '93 cams. It may have been an early '94 and not the '94-1/2. I also pulled cams from a NA '96 and the part numbers were different. Not sure if the cams are different, just the part numbers.

Also, I called Volvo and asked for the '93 NA cams and the '96 NA cams and the parts guy said they have the same exact part number now. Maybe they phased out the old part numbers with the new because they are the same. At any rate, you can no longer order '93 NA cam part numbers from Volvo, you will get the same cams that are supplied in the '96 cars.

Measure the height of the lobes between the '93 and other cams you have; I've read that the '93s have slightly more lift, but you'll tell us.. it might only be a few mils diff..

Volvospeed forum member "Rcstdad (sp?) gained 11whp on the dyno with NA cams on a stock 850 turbo. So yes, that is worth it."

I know it's worth it, just don't think the '93 cams are any different than the '97 cams

I have the N/A throttle body to go onto my car this tuesday. I've made all the intercooler piping up ready to bolt on.

I have to bore out my turbo manifold though. All the N/A 20 Valve engines here in Aus have the VVIS valve thingy inside them.

Here's what you need to do:

What are the two little nipples on the bottom of the N/A throttle body for? The turbo ones dont have them.

The nipples have 2 hoses connected which go to the carbon filter under the battery

Is there some particular reason for grinding the turbo intake? There's time, effort, and hoping you don't screw it up, when it seems to me the easiest solution is to just grab the manifold from the car you're pulling the throttle body off of

Yes, you can run a hose from one to the other, pinch and solder them, take them out and tap a ball bearing in, take them out and JB weld. Lots of options.

$$

Thats the reason. You already have the manifold. The other reason is that not all N/A manifolds will work. Some have that flap system in them, you dont want that.

I'm grinding mine because all the N/A manifolds in australia had the VVIS flap system in them.

Only the 10 valve engine manifolds didnt.

Are you talking about V-VIS system or the EGR valve?

Plugging the EGR valve on the intake manifold is easy as pie; drill and tap for a pipe-thread plug and drive one in there. Yeah if you're talking V-VIS, that's too much bother.. but only the '93s and some of the '94 N/As have that in the states..

here's pic of egr valve

Yeah VVIS is the thing I was referring to. I'll chalk it down to the fact I have man flu at the moment.

Or you pulled the throttle body off a 960 because you wanted one with a smooth plate (no plastic blob) and it has one extra intake runner

I think it's a European thing, but not sure. It's VVIS, Volvo Variable Induction System.

I think I mentioned that there was one of those on the '94 model NA that I pulled the head off of the other day.
