Default weird A/C works well if car is cool..

Ok so my A/C seems to work if the car is parked in the shade before driving or if the temp. is in the 80s and below. Here in NY its been 90+. Today when i first turned it on it worked great ( it was parked in the shade). I drove about 15miles and stopped at a gas station. Turned the car off and about less then 5mins later i turn it back on, the A/C wasnt working that well as before. So after that i figured it got hot so i just went to the supermarket with the windows down. But after i went to the market i decided to try it again. It worked! The car was not in the shade though. What i did was i put the blower on level 2 and it seemed to slowly get colder and colder.. so idk its a weird a/c LOL

Drive it till it stops working. When it stops working check for power at the wire on the compressor. If you have power there and the compressor is not working it needs a reshim.

What did the shop do to the car?

The evap is located inside the car and releases the cool air into the cabin, but it's not a mechanical device. It's like a heater core - only for cold! If there's a problem with it, it'll have a hole in it and can cause a mist to fill the cabin when running the A/C.

If it is the problem, the evap isn't too bad if you do it yourself;

A shop will charge about a grand to do it.

You can search for a post (here or over at MVS) that reviews the repair procedure. It looks easy, just time-consuming.

If the evap was bad the A/C would not work at all or would work cold for a few days or weeks. Then get warmer and warmer till it stops working over time.

What you explain sounds like the compressor clutch needs a reshim.

You can also measure the clutch gap with a feeler gauge. Max gap it .025 I think yours will be around .035. That is to much.
