Wink What caused my front transmission seal to fail?

The local transmission shop told me something tramatic had to have happened to cause the front transmission seal (the seal between the engine and the transnission) to leak.
Is this true? I recently replaced both axles and did have to whack the axle studs in order to bust them loose from the hubs but not too hard!
I did not transfer impulse from the whacking to the tranny case because I held the axle extended.
am i whacked?
Is it common for the seals to just all of the sudden fail or did my kid "Dukes of Hazard" the thing and not tell me?

HELP!!

Are they sure it is the seal in the transmission and not the engine's rear main seal? The only thing I have heard that has cause one of these transmission seals to pop would be to much pressure because the transmission was way over filled.
