Default What is wrong with this manual?

A guy I met has these symptoms with his 5 speed 850:

Difficult to get into gear, lurches when backing up, & won't roll freely when clutch is fully depressed. Any ideas?

Sounds like it either needs a new clutch or you might get away with a clutch adjustment Robert.

My 5 speed wagon had similar issues and a new clutch solved the problems.. ;-)

Unless its slipping I would lead towards the hydraulics, Hydraulics in the clutch are much like your brakes. A little air in the system and your clutch won't fully disengage. Could just be an adjustment needed like fod said. That can be done pretty easy from under the car where the slave cylinder pushes the clutch arm, you would want to adjust it so that it pushed the arm a little further. If thats the scenario a new clutch would fix the problem to because it would need to be adjust after anyway. So just to be clear here ...adjust it and see how it is then.

I think they are on the right track, bleed the system first.
