Wierd Transmission Issue
I have a 94, 850 Turbo, 123, 000 miles with a auto trans. My transmission does not slip and engages all gears. The fluid has been recently flushed and changed. The drained fluid was not burnt. I have no transmission codes and no flashing arrow. My issue is that I sometimes have rough shift from first to second. The problem hasn't gotten any better or worse so I just learned to live with it. Today, 11/13/2010 there was a big snow storm in MInnesota where I live. I used the "winter mode" for the first time in months and observed that probelm went away. It's my understanding that "winter mode" engages the transmission in second gear to minimize wheel spin on slippery surfaces. Thus eliminating the first to second gear upshift: No upshift--- No clunk.
I read on another forum that accumulators are used to dampen the abrupt engagement of actuator pistons. The same article said that a failed or compromsied actuator does not affect transmission life because it actually allows faster engagement of cluthes and bands thus reducing wear promoting slippage? The accumulator is more about smooth engagement and less about durability. I have been told that this condition won't go away but it won't get any worse. Considering the age and mileage of the vehicle I should just live wiith it.
Does anyone out there have any thoughts?
