Default Will a m56lk trans fit in a 94 850?

I need to replace my transmission and I can get a 2001 m56lk transmission but I don't know if it will fit. I am not sure if it has an internal slave cylinder or not and if it did if would fit.

I wouldn't try that. Purchase a '94 or '95 car and pull the tranny out of it.

Would it be possible though? I know that after 95 the speed sensor was in the ABS but it is still possible. I am not worried about having to do extra work. I guess I am just curious now.

Why would you risk doing all that work when you have a chance to do it right the first time?

If your time and money doesn't matter please give it a shot and let us know how it works out. Anything is possible.

It won't fit because the trans ECU is only CAN - BUS compatible which your car is not. Up to 98 it should fit, however you need the "hack" from the ABS wires in order to get a speed signal. Also from 2000 the auto trans have 5 gears vs 4 and have an adaptive control system making the Sport / Economy buttons obsolete.

I will wait until I can find the proper transmission then. I just had to ask just in case. Thanks for all the help.

This will work and work great. 'scutyde' is thinking its an automatic...its not, its manual. Is this a manual conversion (Meaning you have a auto now going to a manual)? Or do you have a manual now? You will have to do the ABS splice. If your an auto now I have more to say....

It is for a future manual swap but I didn't know if because my car is a 94 and the M56lk is from a 2001 if it would fit. I figured I would have to do an ABS splice but I have only seen the M56h from 98 or earlier used.

If you want to be 100% sure, throw this question on Volvospeed.

Damn I overread the M(manual) ... of course my responses were related to the automatic...
I presume it is just a matter of mechanical fitting, I saw on a swedish forum how a guy fitted a M66 in an V70 I adding 6 speed with the space ball. I do not recon that he had to make adjustments between engine and trans, the center console was subject to changes...

Here is the thread in the swedish forum you can use google translate

He is not going to have any problems. It will fit just fine. It will have an internal slave so he will need to do a bit of work with the hydraulics and tap into the ABS speed sensor but other than that its a drop in. I have always wanted a LK for the gear ratio....jealous.

Hey guys, its a long shot but did op (vlovo) ever end up doing this swap? Did it bolt up for the most part besides the few differences mentioned?
