Default Wipers & RoofRails!

Sorry for combining these two into one thread but they kindof half way go together. We recently bought a 97 Volvo 850 Sedan for my wife and I'm going through and fixing all the little things to get it road ready again.

I found a V70 donor car at a local junkyard that is in excellent condition with the exception of a little front end damage. Unfortunatly someone beat me to the leather interior as ours has cloth, but it does have some stuff left on the car. I replaced both the drooping visors in our 850 for $6! There is a slight color difference between the two tans, but with both changed you can't even tell a difference.

Question 1: The driver side windshield wiper is only wiping about half the windshield because the blade doesn't make contact all the way. I took it off and bent the arm a little bit and now it's working well ... until we had a bad rainstorm this weekend and now it's not working! It's just twitching while the passenger side arm wipes. The base clip of the windshield has cracks in it and is partly off now. Oofff. Will the wipers from the V70 fit my 850 sedan? There are a couple 850's in the salvage yard but nothing is in as good shape as the V70.

Question 2: The black finish on top of my roof rails is starting to deteriorate. I bought some black paint and was going to refinish them but I'm curious can I get the rails off the V70 and trim them to the size of my roof, or is that a stupid question?

Question-1: Common issue.

Most people bend the arm slightly (not the wiper blade, but the arm). I took a different route and used a washer. I cut a 2-3mm washer in half and wedged it between the wiper arm and the arm holding nut to make the blade sit at an angle so that the blade was pressed harder against the windshield. The problem was solved. However, no one else seems to have done this, so you may want to consider the first alternative.

Question-2: I would believe it is possible.

It may fit without reforming. If it doesn't fit, you can file it to fit. I believe it is installed with some strong adhesive. Other members may have better ideas so wait until you receive 2-3 more replies.

Good luck,

JPN

I'm pretty sure you could, but if you already have paint, it's a really easy job to sand down the roof rails and paint them. I have done it about three times. simple fix and if you paint them black I think they look a little better as well.

Question 1: Should be an even swap.

Question 2: I am not sure, but I don't see why not.
