Default Wont start again!

last week i was driving down the road in my 95 850 glt and i shifted from 1st to 2ed and it lost all rpms and just sputtered to a stop and then dying. i tried starting it and it turns over but wont fire and it has spark. its doing the samething that happened when the fule pump had to be replaced. so when it happened the first time i changed out the cam position sensor and that didnt do anything so we went to the fule pump and that fixed it. anyone have any ideas on what it could be this time?

so my step dad and i just went out and pulled the fuel pump and the pump is running and working. when we set it back in we made the ring the screws on around the pump finger tight and the car started. so now with the car running we tighted everything down good and tight and went to start it again and it wouldnt start again. what could cause that? water at the bottom of the gas tank? any other causes?

Is the pump in the tank? maybe there is a short in a wire to the pump. Once, Volvo snipped some wires going into my fuel tank and connected them back up. After that, the connections they did were not good and I was loosing a little power to the guage and had to re-do it.

Default Is it working now???

You can hit the starter for a second and then release the key. If the pump is working you will hear it run for about 5 seconds. It sound like you have some wire pinched or it maybe has an internal break that you can not see. Check with a salvage yard and get the whole part that goes in the tank. The pump is connected to that right?

Well, that last time i was in a Volvo tank, the pump was attached to a unit that had the guage float, wires, bracket, etc. all as the assembly. I would replace the entire assembly because it sound like there is some kind of short in it. But I may be wrong. It just sound like it because it does not work when you secure it. I think it's a short.

Have you verified you're getting pwr to the pump when it fails? Ck it where the harness plugs in at the tank with volt meter or test light. If you don't have pwr, then i would ck the fuel pump relay. If it does have pwr, then your pump is bad.

I could not get my volvo 850 turbo started for about 4 months and I was just curious about a proper way to remove fuel pump for bench testing. I had to relieve fuel pressure first (by cranking up a few times until it dies, after fuel pump relay was removed), but in my case, that is not an option. Put a rag over the fuel pump assembly area when it is pulled?

In addition, how I check the pump relay for voltage and resistance etc?

Someone also advised me that my Volvo could not get started perhaps due to fuel injection relay. Is this another common culprit for 1996 Volvo 850 Turbo? Any one knows how to troubleshoot this fuel injection relay?

Thanks!
