Default Crank, no start with "CEM-Immobilizer, engine control module check: Not ok" in VIDA

Hello again! I'm chasing down a crank, no-start on my 09. I've verified fuel at the fuel rail, verified crank position sensor is working, cleaned the connectors for CEM and ECM (both of which looked perfectly clean and not corroded), threw a new battery in and am now digging into VIDA to see what's up.


Based on a few searches, I checked the values here for 'OK' statuses. The CEM-Immobilizer, engine control check status of 'Not ok' seems to be indicative of a communication issue with one or more modules. I was hunting towards the immobilizer because every once in a while the dashboard would say "Immobilizer, try starting again" but I haven't seen that message once since I replaced the battery.







Under fault trace in VIDA, you can see the two CEM communications-related codes which are also concerning.







I don't have most of the same error messages or SRS-codes as found in this article (P1 Platform Immobiliser / SRS issues – Swedish Vehicle Diagnostics (not SAAB)), but, we do share the engine check status of 'not ok' and the vehicle was parked for ~2 years so it likely has had at least one "low voltage condition."

I am currently charging up the battery and touching the leads together to allow the computers to reset. If you have any insights or diagnostics I can run in VIDA (or manually) that would help me, I'd appreciate it.

PS- I just noticed corrosion on/in the negative battery cable.. could that be causing any issue with these sensitive cars?

Update! After allowing the computers to reset overnight and replacing the negative battery cable with a 1-ga. fat wire, the communications faults are gone.


However, the status of 'Not ok' still exists for the engine control module check.



I guess it's time to check compression and timing!
