Problem with signal of AM radio
Hello all
I have a C30 (2010) and a problem has started with my radio. On FM the signal is great, no problems at all.....but on AM the signal appears to be affected by a loose wire, as when I drive and listen to AM the signal goes all over the place. I suspect the radio has two wires for aerials (one for FM and one for AM) just like any decent home stereo unit, but are the wires easy to get to, and is this something that a car novice could fix.
If not, am I looking at a large repair bill from a Volvo dealer?
Any help gratefully accepted......
Thanks

2 problems cause this issue this first is the am antenna goes bad but that's is very rare. The second is the intergraded audio module (IAM) which is the CD player, goes bad on those cars causing problems with the FM radio. So it needs s new IAM and a software reload.
Thanks Damien....
The CD player works perfectly, as does the FM radio, the problem only exists when I listen to AM. When the car is parked up, the signal is fine, but when I start to drive the signal is affected......If I had to guess I would say it is a loose wire somewhere that needs fixing.....is this possible (the loose wire that is)?

I had a very similar problem with my 09 (AM radio would sometimes work fine, other times not at all, but FM/CD/AUX/SAT all worked flawlessly). They ended up replacing the IAM (I had an aftermarket warranty so I was only out the $100 deductible). Hope this helps.
Mega bump here...my AM radio is dead on my '08 C30.1 and word is not worth the cost to troubleshoot/fix. Next oil change I'll bring it up and see if dealer has a quick/easy/cheap fix--if not, don't need no stinkin' AM...
