Default 1998 C70 questions

Hey guys!

New to this forum, but excited about joining! I'm looking @ a 1998 C70 with approx 101K on it. The owner wants about 6,500 for it, and it needs some paint work done, but no rust or damage. And apparently everything works well on it.

I have a lot of experience with VW's, and know their reliability when it comes to their engines and transmissions. But don't know much about Volvos. And hope you guys can help out.

1. Is this a worthwhile purchase at this price? I can get the paint redone for dirt cheap. So thats no issue.

2. Are there any major problems with this model and year? Anything I would have to replace at an expensive cost (more then just normal wear and tear)?

3. Can I expect to get at least 60-100K more miles out of this, if it was well maintained, or will it die out on me sooner? This would be an estimate of course.

4. When I inspect it, anything I should look for specifically?

Thanks for your help guys, and looking foward to becoming a part of this forum!

I almost bought a 98 C70, but read about some of the problems with this car on this forum, and the car I looked at had many of the problems mentioned. But it had the best factory stereo I have every heard. The sunroof rattled when hitting a bump and tech said there is not really a fix for this problem. The power windows did not work and tech said this would cost quite a bit to fix. Like $600 per door. Search through here and you will get a better feel, but there are plenty of guys that really like these cars. They are great looking and it's a car that cost close to $40k when new. Is it a convertible or coupe?

It is a coupe. So you think it may not be worth it? Thats a shame cuz it was a nice looking car.

Anyone else who has one have any problems with it?

You should not infer from what I said that it's not worth $6,500. To me that's a real deal for this car. You just may have to learn to live with some of the quirks that seem to be common with this car. Have you read other posts in this, the C70, forum? There is a ton of information. Just asking should I buy this car for this price is not something that is not easy to answer. You have to make an informed decision. The one I was looking at was over $10K and it was not well taken care of. I decided I would rather fix my 97 850 R than buy a 98 C70 Coupe.
