1998 Volvo C70 (need some help)
So I was in at the local Volvo mechanic who has been around for over 20 years. And there are some interesting things going on with my volvo that I need to have fixed ASAP but I have no cash and need to do them myself. So please help if you can.
1) Low beam headlight is out (high beam works) BUT, when I checked the fuse it wasn't bad. The only bad fuse that was in the fuse box was the front cigarette lighter.
2) I am having a problem with high idle (900-1000 rpm). How ever I have found that the peddle causes some of the problem, so I was wondering on how to fix that without getting a new cable. Was also told that the idle air sensor (which is $200) could be causing it.
3) With this vehicle how do I check the PCV system? I know there's a valve but with this car I dont know where it is. :S
Other than that there's a bit of lifter noise but put in a bottle of cd2, so that should clear that up.

1. Are both low beam headlights out?
2. High idle - Idle Air Control (IAC) valve testing - use an ohm meter to measure resistance between connector pins 1 & 2 and between 2 & 3 - should be 10-14 ohms, if not replace IAC. Voltage - ignition ON - pin 2 to ground should read battery voltage, pin 1 to ground should read 6-8.5 volts, if not, replace IAC.
3. PCV - B5254S, B5234T, B5254T,B5254FT,B5234T3 ENGINES - Volvo refers to the PCV valve as: the flame guard. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the throttle pulley cover. Udo the hose clamp and remove the inlet hose to air cleaner housing. Remove the flame trap (PCV) from the housing by rotating it 0.59 inches (15mm) to the left. Remove the flame trap from the inlet hose using a small screwdriver or pick. Inspect hose for clog. Blow out hose with compressed air. Change engine oil after replacement.

1) no just the driver side low beam. Checked the fuse and its good. :S
2) good to know will do if I can find myself an ohm meter for cheap. :/
3) I just checked the vacuum on the car. And its got nothing but vacuum. So it cant be that.
Now the code thats reading is a P0410, and when I did the research it said that it was a secondary air injection system. And I have a feeling this car is going to be a pain.

Alright, so I did a bit of looking. And the $18 one way check valve was missing entirely, thus its replaced.
not only that I also replaced the smog pump selenoid as it was bad.
Other things I checked:
IAC (1-2) was reading 11.3.
IAC (2-3) was reading 13.4.
Should I replace the IAC if its reading that low? Because its popping codes too and is also causing a high idle (so I was told by the local volvo mechanic).
thermostat sensor is also popping codes every once in a while. so I figure down the line I will just replace both.
