2001 C-70 Automatic Transmission
My 2001 C-70 failed me last week while commuting to work. I had been having intermittent episodes of the "STS", "ABS", and "Check Engine" lights coming on. I was told they were somehow related & there was a part I should get to resolve. I haven't yet. The computer(?) was reset reset and no warning lights were coming on. The next evening I forgot to turn off the engine when I began fueling. I turned it off & continued to fill up the tank. No warning lights came on. The next morning, after about 2 miles, after waiting at a stop sign on an uphill road, it would not engange into gear. No warning lights came on. I finally got it to go after turning off the engine & restarting. It stayed in gear maybe 100 feet. This repeated about 4 times until it was at a safe area off the road. It wouldn't work everytime I restarted it, sometimes it took a few tries.
When hooked to the hand held diagnostic tool, it does not receive any information from the transmission. I was told I need to replace the transmission at $3,000-$4,000.
I haven't heard it, but I'm told when started, a noise can be heard from the transmission area that continues 15-30 seconds.
Does this sound familiar? Do I really need to replace the transmission?
Thank you for your help.

I haven't checked it, but I am told the fluid is not low, but has darkened & has slight burnt odor. The shop does not believe in changing or filling fluid.
When a module goes bad (speed sensor was first diagnosis); would that lead to failure of Electronic Throttle Module, recently reported to be faulty?; When this happens, do the modules need to be replaced, or reprogrammed?
What are the symptoms of a bad tranny?
Thanks

If your fluid is "burnt"............then it is shot!!! I will repeat. If your fluid is "burnt"......then it is shot!! The first thing on the agenda is a fluid change ASAP.
