Default 2007 C70 - A Good Vehicle??

Considering the purchase of a 2007 C70 — single owner, local vehicle, low miles.

Have done extensive research on this vehicle online. As expected, some purchasers have been burned — engine, transmission, electronic, or window issues — and others (most) appear happy with their C70. There did not seem to be one problem that consistently came up. I dismissed reports concerning handling, driving response, etc.; not because they’re not valid issues, but because they have no bearing on my purchase decision. I am concerned with reliability and maintainability.

Questions for the forum members:

1. Anyone know of C70 problems or issues to be concerned about?

2. Are parts readily available for the C70? I ask this because parts availability has become an issue for other older
vehicles I own.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Bob are you the Captain Bob 73 that was a member of Thunderbirdnest.com for about a day back in the day? Don't know if you ever did Buy a Thunderbird but I love my 2003 T-Bird as much as any of the of the 95 cars I've ever owned . (Time is running out on boyhood goal of owning 100!) Hope none of your toys has been abandoned like Ford did the T-Bird as far as parts availability. Like you said performance isn't currently an issue as us guys over 65 probably ran the stuff out of earlier cars. Owed a dozen Vettes that would run circles around my T-Bird and C70 but that isn't why we bought them. Top down cruising in a straight line on sunny days explains both.

Why a C70? Wife said I should get the hardtop convertible thing out of my system. Didn't want to spend over $10,000 so I searched all hardtop convertibles in that price range. Would loved to have a Lexus SC430 but that is another v8 rear wheel drive that would need stored winters. So I started looking at front wheel drive more conservatively powered vehicles. Flew to Connecticut from Ohio to pick this 2007 up as it had all records and 4 brand new never mounted snow tires on steel wheels.

1. While I've owned it only a few months I absolutely love it . In the top 5 of all time favorites and rising quickly.

2. research told me that properly maintained, this car will be my wife's problem to dispose of after I'm gone! (She loves it and I hope that disposal problem is years in the future.)

3. Have used FCP Euro for maintenance parts and find most are available.

4. My research told me I needed to have the timing belt changed before the 500 mile drive home. Nothing else concerned me enough not to buy!

2007 Volvo C70 worth having????? ABSOLUTELY!

Default 2007 C70 -- A Good Vehicle??

Wcoates -

I was a member of the Thunderbird forum -- probably still am. Bought a 2004 T-bird new; owned it for about five years; and then moved on. About a year ago, I was re-visiting the T-bird but kept reading that Ford had not properly supported spare parts for the vehicle; as a result, key parts are not available. Starting to encounter the same issue with my 1995 Mercedes E320 Cabriolet that I've owned since 2003 -- parts market is beginning to dry up after 25 years.

As a result, spare parts availability is something I look at when considering a particular vehicle.

I like the C70. However, given the changes in ownership Volvo has experienced; the fact that the C70 has been out of production since 2013; and the limited years (2006-2013) the hard top convertible version was produced, I am concerned about the adequacy of the spare parts supply. Hence, my post.

Glad to hear you are enjoying yours. I've test driven one and it was fun and very comfortable.

Thank you for alleviating some of my concern.

Kind regards,

the C70s drive train and suspension is shared with a lot of other Volvos and should prove to be pretty reliable. Most of the issues I've seen on the C70s is with the roof - hydraulics/micro-switches etc that need replacing and upkeep etc. Never heard of a shortage of parts - only the usual complaints about having to get the parts from a dealer and factory part pricing... You can read through the C70 board and see the kinds of issues people have posted. You can look at the S60 board for issues with the power train (more posts there). For other cabs to check out, I saw a 2008 BMW 650i convertible for about 10K that caught my eye :-)
