Default 2011 C70, 13k mi, needs $800 rear strut plates????????

Hi Volvo enthusiasts-

Let me begin by saying, I love my C70. "Baby Blue" is lovingly garage kept and gently driven- I work from home so have only 13k miles on it.

I had a tire issue that took me to the dealer, and asked them to check an occasional rattle I could hear coming from the right rear. The dealer replaced my tire, and told me I needed new rear strut plates to the tune of $800. Of course, I am out of the warranty period...

My question is twofold...
1) is it normal for strut plates on a Volvo to give up in only 13k miles? and 2) is $800 for rear "strut plates" the norm?

I was flabbergasted by the fact I need something "shock" related with so little miles and dumbstruck by the cost to fix it.

Thanks in advance for any input.

All the best-
Katie in Fort Lauderdale

There are no struts in the rear. What's the part number of the part they want to replace.

Hi ES6T-

My invoice says "customer declined rear strut plates and alignment" and the part number appears to be 13072...?

Actually, I don't think that is a part number as it appears under my tire line item, too.

They don't usually put the part number on the RO, you would have to call the advisor and ask.

never heard of rear "strut plates" for our cars. perhaps broken rear end links? but those are $50/ea and 30-60min of labor.

the front shocks have strut bearings/mounts but not rear.

Hi jschinito-

I broke the front strut on my dad's sports car going over a speed bump in my school parking lot as a teenager- the front end dropped a foot. Learned my lesson about driving gently, that's for sure.

Not sure if this will work or not, but I think I am posting 2 shots of my invoice from the dealer here:
