C70 Turbo question (new owner)
Greetings to everyone and thank you for the GREAT info you have all given me in the past few months. I've been looking for a c70 convert for some time now and FINALLY got my new Red/Tan 04 LT in yesterday. So far I knew enough not to freak out with the BAD vibrations and ride (17" wheels) and had them replaced yesterday with new tires that made ALL the difference. I would NEVER have known this was the problem without you folks.
Here's my question.
I have driven many Turbo cars in the past. (a few Mid 80s Chrysler 2.2 turbos and an 81 280ZX turbo) On each of those cars I could CLEARLY hear the turbo when the car accelerates quickly. However, in the C70 LT I don't hear ANY turbo noise at all. The car's not fast by ANY means (Wanted an HT but hey... when a deal comes along you grab what you can) but it's also not a slug (as I'd expect with a turbo problem.
What I'm wondering is 1) SHOULD I BE HEARING A TURBO WHINE/SPOOL WHEN I FLOOR IT FROM A STOP OR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS? 2) IS THERE ANOTHER WAY TO CHECK TO BE SURE IT IS WORKING? I'm a bit shocked there's no boost gauge but then again, it is my first Volvo.
It's still under warranty so I obviously want to get this looked at if it IS a problem so any input will be appreciated.

Sometimes people can hear theirs and others can't. Don't worry, I am sure it is working. If you really want to know if it is working get a Autometer Boost/vac gauge from egauges.com
A boost gauge came with the 850 R's and T5-R's but not in any other model I am aware of, and when I say boost gauge I mean a very primitive boost gauge.

I never hear mine spooling up.............high pressure turbo. My two turbo Corvairs on the other hand...............
In all fairness at my advanced age I probably would not hear it if the hood was off! I do know it works 'though TECH....for a heavy auto it goes like a raped ape still!

high pressure is 238 hp. Volvo stopped making the coupe in 2002 but you could obtain either the low or high pressure. My understanding is that the convertible could be ordered with either also.............. The high pressure is a 2.3 litre whereas the low pressure is a 2.4. The 2.3 is phased out but the venerable 2.4 is carrying on. It is in the new 2008 c-30 that will be on the European market next year. See AUTOWEEK 23 October 2006.

The quick and short answer is a terrible waste of money for a street auto and in addition the use of the oiled cotton filter can cause problems down the road. I have yet to see a properly oiled cotton filter or a properly cleaned one. Stick to what Volve uses.
