Default Can a bad Turbo cause this????

OK, I'm about up to here with my '01 Volvo C70 LT Convertible!!! I've had it 8 months and have already been stranded 3 times! Yesterday I'm driving and all of a sudden the car sounds like an 18 wheeler truck without a muffler! LOUD!!!! I also couldn't accelerate much at all after that as I crawled to the nearest safe place to get it towed to my new best buddy; the mechanic. Before I get hit with the next 1500 bill or more,...can anyone take a stab as to what it might be? I'm thinking the turbo has gone bad,..but would it cause the car to sound like a freight train and drive like a log wagon? If it is the turbo,...what are talking here,..another 2 Grand to replace?

As soon as I get it repaired (I have no choice at the moment so I have to do it regardless) I will undoubtedly dump it in the spring for something more reliable. It's been a real shame as the car is a real "looker",...but unfortunately I need a "driver" too.

Maybe your muffler did fall off. These cars are kinda low, so is it possible you hit something that could have caused the noise. It could aldo be a cracked monifold. Or yes your turbo **** the bed. Two people have in the past day asked about getting a turbo replaced both are saying its $900 so thats what you're looking at to get an OEM turbo. There are others that you can get if you want a little more performance. Many for $900 as well .

Did a CEL come up? or any warning lights come on. Its a vague question. I'm sure TECH the resident expert will be able to tell you exactly whats wrong.

I assumed if it was the muffler,..it wouldn't effect the acceleration of the vehicle. No warning lights at all.

yeah the muffler would not, if it ripped off and took part of the downpipe / screwed the muffler up you could lose some accelleation.... Same goes for the manifold.

Maybe one of the intercooler hoses blew off.

It was the Exhaust behind the turbo..it broke off basically leaving a huge exhaust leak...It was welded back repaired and she drives like new again. How weird is this....Stll makes me mad as a hornet though and $750 lighter to boot.

Did they just weld up what you had? or did they replace the downpipe? and possibility get you a new cat. To me that seems like a lot of scratch for some welding...
