Default New and neep input

I just recently purchased a '98 c70 with 81k on the odometer. I live in Cali, so tuning it is limited while remaining smog-legal. I was wondering if anyone had some tips or parts that could help me extract some extra ponies from the engine. Thanks

1. Welcome to the forum.

2. You need to honestly search before asking questions. Because this question has been asked many times over. However I will give you some information.

-3" downpipe to 2.5" free flowing catback exhaust with free flowing muffler like Magnaflow. You should be SMOG legal with this setup. Make sure the pipes are mandrel bent as well.

-Intake, the stock intake is the best setup. So either slap a K&N panel filter or really a new stock filter in there and be happy or. Buy an EST intake kit, you will be sucking in hot air, not as much as just a cone filter without a heatshield, but still sucking in hot air. Or search on this forum in the INTAKE section about the DIY intake that SLATER from (Volvospeed) came up with.

-ECU tuning, IPD/RICA/Upsolute/SpeedTuning USA/EST

http://www.ipdusa.com
http://www.vivaperformance.com (U.S. RICA dealer)
http://www.upsolute.com
http://www.speedtuningusa.com
http://www.eurosporttuning.com

SpeedTuning USA is the cheapest at $320 it is a good ECU tune for quick HP. Upslute comes in next at around $400-$425. EuroSportTuning comes in next at around $500-$600. IPD is next at like $795 or so and RICA is the last at like $800+

SpeedTuning USA remaps are free and RICA is $100 fo each remap.

Also you need to perform a STAGE 0 to your car. Go over to http://www.volvospeed.com STAGE ZERO, first post search for STAGE 0 in the PERFORMANCE PINNED section and perform what it says to do. Another thing is you need to get a gauge to measure your BOOST/VACCUM, this is vital to you as it will become a diagnostics tool if something goes wrong with your boost and or vaccum. Buy this type of gauge from, http://www.egauges.com look into an Autometer gauge they are the best. To mount this gauge go to http://www.gaugepods.com and buy thier single or triple gauge A-pillar pods.

These mods will net you some nice extra Hp and Torque.

I covered the basics that will gain him some good power.

I could go into some more in depth upgrades, but unless he wants to hear it I am not going to waste my breath and typing.

No it is no problem, however searching first will most likely answer your questions.

Ok here I go.

If your planning a turbo upgrade, 16T/18T/19T, or something bigger then what you have now. Your going to want to stick with the 3" downpipe, however you going to want to upgrade to a full 3" catback system with free flowing muffler like Magnaflow. http://www.vivaperformance sells some turbos so does http://www.volvomotorsports.com

If you want to gain some more ponies, I suggest either buying a new intercooler. This one, from EST EST Intercooler Or custom fab a FMIC.

As far as ECU tuning goes I gave you before the best of the best that is out there for Volvo's. However there is one more and it goes by the name of Civinco, which is a stand alone system I believe. Don't quote me on that. This is like an ultimate tuning product.

If you upgrade your turbo to something bigger you might want to upgrade you fuel injectors, to bigger ones. Viva Performance might still sell some bigger Volvo ones and I know VMS sells some bigger ones as well.

The EST Reverse IC piping really isn't worth it, it is just for looks. If you have to do this I suggest something custom. http://www.eurosporttuning.ca/Mercha...Code=VL-C70-en

On a side note from something I talked about before, STAGE 0. I suggest either getting SAMCO turbo hoses, and or Stylin Motor turbo hoses. Both are great. I have the Stylin Motor ones and love them.

When you are upgrading like this (Heavy Duty), your going to want to buy a WIDEBAND 02 gauge and also a oil pressure or other temperature gauges. Of course get a boost/vac gauge for sure.

Port/Polishing your intake manifold and exhaust mainfold. Port matching and gasket matching of course.

Nitrous, but be careful with it. Read everything about NITROUS before going this way. The more you know the more it will help you in making a choice to do this mod or not to.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't suggest doing this, but for a simple gain in boost. You can install a simple MBC (Manual Boost Controller). However I don't suggest this. Also I don't suggest adjusting the wastegate either.

If your going to go faster your going to want to stop faster and stop safer. So I would suggest you look into a BBK (Big Brake Kit), SS Brake lines, and some good pads.

If you don't have 17" rims, your going to have to to run a BBK system.

Also you might want to look into IPD sway bars, which IMO is the best suspension mod you can do for your Volvo. A strut brace is just something nice to have and you might or may not notice a difference with it or without it.

Some lowering springs would give the ride a nice appeal and also give you some suspension performance.
