My car is make a strange ticking noise when driving, from the driver's position i think it comes from the ETM, only happens when the car is moving or moving off, and from time to time when there's clutching action. Anyone have any idea?

It sounds a bit like the air con compressor is trying to engage the clutch, but air con is switched off and it's out of gas anyway..

the car is a C70 2.4T

I will try to record something, altho is it normal that ETM makes a tick tick noise if there's something wrong?

When you shut it off or turn the key on it will make some noise setting itself into position.

 

Axle ping? You can remove the axle bolt and strut bolts to access the axle shaft. Add some grease to the splines. Just of your description, this is what i think. Does it happen when shifting from P-D or D-R. If so, this is more likely your problem.

 

Mine is a manual, anyway I think you are right about the axle pinging, altho I am not sure if I want to work on that myself. How difficult is it to grease it? I fear that some damage has already been done?
