Default Swapping an engine...

2000 C70 engine code 56 (B5254T) with blown head gasket (bought it that way.) Had been under the impression that switching to anything else was difficult, but reading a few of the threads here indicates that may not be true. Seems some here prefer the 2.3 etc, one of which I've found. Sometimes the Volvo enthusiast-specific acronyms blow over my head, and haven't found explanation for a few.

What's possible to put in here with a reasonable amount of effort? Are 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5 largely able to swap parts, like injectors/manifolds etc across them? What is a B5254T2 vs the T? Will they exchange? Match the ECU to the car, as long as you can move pumps/injectors etc across? Don't mind playing around a bit, but really don't want to develop a garage queen project chasing quirks all summer.

Thanks, John
