I have a 2002 C70, bigger engine, with only 47,000 miles and have done maintenance religiously with my Volvo dealer. Today he suggested that I replace the timing belt on my next service (in 7,500 miles). He said even with the low mileage, timing belt replacement is necessary because of the age of the car (10 years old). Is this good advice, or should I wait until the recommended 107,000 miles?

 

I have 1998 C70 Coupe, 2.3HPT, Auto, 34k miles original timing belt. 14 yrs old.

 

Do you think you're just lucky, or do you know about replacing timing belts?

 

Yes, this is something you should do soon.
Time kills rubber, too.
I'd replace the tensioner and idler pulleys also. The water pump may go for twice the mileage.

I bit the bullett and scheduled a timing belt replacement for Monday; over $900. Will also ask about the tension and idler pulleys. Thanks for the help, ed and MSGTUSMC.
