I would do both at or before 100k miles, also flush radiator and power bleed brake system.
JMHO. This will ensure all fluids have been changed and systems cleaned out for another 100k. Check your owners book for maintenance intervals, some can be downloaded on line and e-bay has books for sale. Good luck.

I saw a great Youtube video on the discussion of drain vs flush and how to decide. The guidance is to first pull your tranny dipstick and check the color of the fluid by wiping on a white paper towel. If the fluid has a reddish hue, its in good shape, reddish brown its about done, and dark brown black its past due. The goal is to keep the fluid clean of deposits etc, so if you are red or reddish, its ok to do a full flush (good for another 100K). If you are tending towards brown, do a drain and fill - that will get about 30-40% of the fluid out - and will allow you to look out for any changes to the shifting. If you are black already, they you may already have damaged clutch packs and you should drop the pan to look for metal fragments etc. ONLY use the fluid specific to your model as noted in the user manual (see "specifications"). ie my 850 uses JWS 3309, my s40 uses Dexron III / Mercon = not the same, not interchangeable...
