Default Pre-Sales - XC60 or XC90 potential buyers tip

Hi All,

With a new family addition I'm looking to upgrade to a larger SUV. I've been considering PHEVs including the Lexus NX450+/RX450+ however the wait times are ridiculous, 2 years.

Hence why I'm looking at the Recharge models XC60 or XC90. The XC90 is pushing the budget though. Love the look, quality and ride handling but I do have concerns with the reliability, and they do cost significantly more than the Lexus.

The other concern is that the shape/face hasn't changed much since 2016, spending >100k, then a total new model is released in 2023 will be devastating.

As a potential buyer is there anything to beware of, questions to ask the dealer?

Thanks all

Chuck

Ask 100 people and get 100 different opinions. But for what it’s worth, knowing now what I do, I would not have bought my 2022 XC60 Recharge ER last May. The car drives wonderfully, is fun to drive, looks beautiful, I love driving on electric, BUT the technology has not been reliable enough for my tastes. I’ve had to bring it in 3 times (so far) for software issues. The first one was serious since the car wouldn’t start. The next one included the computer screen going dark and the doors not locking. Last one was the volume slide at the top of the screen not going off and blocking accessing numerous features, including some necessary ones. I’m 71 years old and have owned lots of new cars (too many). I’ve never experienced this many issues with a new car. I’ve never had a PHEV before so maybe it’s because it’s still newer technology, but regardless, I don’t feel this is acceptable, especially for a $70,000 car. I see too many complaints on these forums to think I just got unlucky. I’m sure there are folks out there with all good experiences, but too many people are having issues. There’s a few other less important technology features missing I didn’t expect which might have had some impact on my decision, and I didn’t know Volvo was owned by the Communist Chinese (sorry but I’m not a fan even though I know we buy everything else from China, but not a major purchase like this). Like you, the shortage of cars played a factor for us. But it’s the feeling now like what will break next and hoping it’s not serious enough to shut the car down while you’re out on the road somewhere.
