XC60 Pure mode using gas???
Ok, let me start by saying I don’t really think I’m actually using gas while in Pure electric mode in my 2022 XC60 Recharge ER. The question is how can Pure mode affect your gasoline distance to empty calculation when you’re not using gas at all. My dealer did not know. I last filled the car up with gas over a month ago (a beautiful thing itself) and it showed 490 miles to empty. I have only used Pure mode since. I have it always starting in Pure. I recharge it at night and we haven’t gone far enough per day to exhaust the electric charge. The 490 figure stayed the same for a couple weeks. I brought the car in for a new computer patch (within one month of purchase it would start only
intermittently, wouldn’t lock, e-messages, etc). I got it back in a couple days and it showed 480 miles to empty (and so far the new patch is holding, hooray). I figured the dealer might’ve taken it out to see if it was working and might have used a little bit of gas. No problem. I put it back into the pure only mode when I picked it up and it’s stayed there. However since then the miles to empty number on the computer dashboard keeps dropping despite the fact that we have not used any gasoline. It’s now showing 370 miles to empty, a drop of 110
miles without having used one drop of gasoline. The only thing I can figure is if the computer is constantly looking at your average speed and then determining how much gas you would use at that speed. But we have only been driving at regular city speeds and not at significant highway speeds that should lower your mileage to that large a degree. Is this just another anomaly of Volvo‘s less than impressive software? Any thoughts?

Hmm. Mine has an option in drive settings: "always start in Pure mode".
So I was driving on Pure, I was out of electric and it switched to Hybrid and turned on gas engine, I drove home and put it on charge. Next day it started on Pure.

The OP says they have an ER version. I don't see anywhere on the Volvo site for ordering the Extended Range version. Is ER now the only model for 2023 ordering?
Glad to hear it can be programmed to always start in Pure mode as that would probably be my wife's default driving mode.

yes there is a “switch” in the driving mode menu that asks to start in pure mode. I was told when we visited the factory this option was a North America only option. Not sure if that is true anymore.

For the first 500 miles, we never used the ICE. Once we used the ICE for about 8 miles, then for 24 miles, the gas gauge started tweaking itself slightly but only a few miles even though ICE never turned on during this time.
Then we took a 200 mile round trip weekend vacation(city and highway) with free charging at the hotel, using about 4 gallons of gas in the process.
Since then, the gas range has fluctuated more, by 10%.
My only thinking is the vehicle is now learning how we drive in electric mode(accelerator position, accelerator travel, and speed) to determine a “gas” mileage if you were to switch to ICE.
For reference, we have done 1150miles and still have 220 miles left on the original tank of gas.
