Default 850 Turbo Modes

I was just wondering what difference the economy mode and sport mode make. How much is the difference in power and gas mileage?
-Thanks

The only thing I really notice about it on my R is the way it shifts. It holds teh gear longer and better than in Economy mode.
Milage is about the same.
I just testes the function this weekend with a 1,000 miles round trip.

It changes the gear ratio.

No real performance increases.

You don't think you get better gas mileage in economy mode? I guess I just drive different when I have it in sport. As soon as I see a car going fast, I push it into sport mode, but normally drive in econ mode. I love the different feel it gives you when you step on the gas.

Thanks,
So you can toggle between the 2 while in motion?

Also, I hear winter mode starts the car off in 3rd or something like that. Is this really the way to go in winter?

-Thanks

Yes. You can switch any time between the three modes. It's all electronic.

Sport seems to like to hit the turbo a lot easier. And for me (maybe I'm dreaming), it seems like I'm getting a little extra boost in sport also...

I was only off by about 1/2 mile per gallon on the way home.

Hi - I just registered. Had my 850R for about 8 months and drive it almost exclusively in sport. I average around 20mpg and have achieved 27 on highway trips. I'm wondering if I should run a lower weight oil for possible mileage and performance gains? Running Mobil 1 10w30 currently.

You're not going to get a significant mileage bonus by switching oil.

I would stick with 10W30.

Thanks for feedback. I was thinking of switching to lighter weight for the winter but probably not necessary for NE PA climate.

I have a NA 850 and really prefer the sport mode. frankly, it's the most intuitive automatic transmission (in sport) that i've ever driven. you can reliably make it downshift one gear or two with the accelerator, and it's easy to modulate. econ isn't terrible, it drives like an average automatic.

in short: my little red LED stays on all the time. :P
