00 s40 Headlight issue
I've looked around the forum to see what is wrong, but haven't found any. I have a 2000 s40 and my passenger headlight, both high and low beams, aims into the tree line. I've noticed that if I take my rubber caps off the back of the bulbs that I can move the whole inside of the assembly. Does this mean that I need to purchase a new assembly?
The plastic in the stock headlights is very brittle and gets worse with age (like me!) Anyway, what I did was remove the entire headlight assembly from the car then removed the front lens from the assembly. You have to pop the clips off around the lens then gently pull and pry the lens free of the gasket. Looking behind the plastic chrome piece I saw where the plastic adjusters had broken. Luckily they cracked such that with a bit of JB Weld they fit right back together. Use the quick set JB Weld and it sets up in minutes and fully hardens in about 4 hours.
I did this about 3 times over the years with the plastic breaking in different spots each time. Finally I had to replace the whole assembly when the plastic "chrome" reflective part started bubbling and flaking off.
