Question 02 S40 1.9t Can my remote be cloned to a new one w/o the dealer???

I bought the car a few weeks back and it came w/ no remote...

While going through the paperwork that came with my car I found one of the previous owners phone numbers on a service receipt, so for the heck of it I called and asked if he possibly had the remote. He called right back and said it was his sons car and would ask him.

Well Sat in my mail was the remote and yet another spare unbroken key. The remote had no battery so I popped one in and it works fine, the case had seen better days so ordered a replacement from Ebay.

My question now is it possible to just clone my remote to a second one w/o going to the dealer?

Thanks,
John

AFIK, EACH remote has a unique key number burned into its chip. That number is printed on the packaging that OEM remotes are delivered with. The dealer (only) can then "mate" the remote's ID to your car's locking system.

If you can preserve the RFID chip (buried in the shank of the remote) as well as the transmitter board from the older remote, it will probably work fine.
