Default 02 S40 12V outlet stopped?

12V outlet stopped working suddenly. What do I need to do to fix it. Is there a fuse? Where? If no fuse how do I replace it

The interior fuses are located behind a small door on the driver's side down in front of the hood release. #2 is the first fuse on the middle row and is the 12v outlet fuse. Make sure you check the outlet for the reason the fuse blew like a coin in there shorting it out.

EDIT: I assumed the fuse blew in my reply. If the fuse is good then it's possible either the receptacle broke or the power feed came off the back. The center console is easily removed should the need arise.

How exactly do you remove the center console, near the parking break, cause my 12 volt outlet is completely broken, i need to install a new one, and possibly get a new fuse as well...but i can not figure out to get it out to begin with.

Question Hudini

You stated the middle console, by the parking break is easily removable, for the 12 volt outlet in a 2001 volvo s40. I believe mine is broken, and or it may be the fuse. How do I take apart the console to get to the cigarette outlet, so that it can be replaced. I'm in desperate need of help!
Thanks.

EDIT: Welcome to the forum.

No need for desperation! Lift out the rubber pad under the radio. Under that is a plastic cover that has two pinch tabs on the sides. A little tricky to pinch the tabs while gently pulling up on the plastic cover. I use a little metal L shaped tool to help lift. Removing that cover exposes 2 screws holding the aft section. There are 2 more screws under a small cover in the arm rest pocket on the aft section of the center console. With those 4 screws out of the way you can lift the aft section of the center console. Just lift it far enough to have access to the lighter. To remove it completely you have to remove the leather cover over the parking brake then lift the parking brake handle in order to give enough room to maneuver the aft section clear.

Here is a link to an exploded diagram:
