06 S40 HID XENON LEGAL?
I Have a 2006 S40 - with Xenon option.. I want to buy 12000K (Violet) HID Xenon Lights for my car. Its going to cost me $$$. I want to know if HID Xenon is legal when properly installed.. I have 43000K already on but the light is too white and not good enough.. Is the upgrade legal, is there any law for having colored Xenon lights with level & projector beam headlight???

With that being said. Why do you want to go with 12000K? Do you realize that you don't get more light output with 12000K you actually get less light output. The only thing you are getting is a purple color.
4300K-5500K have the most light output or LUMENS. I personally would go no higher then 6000K. Like I said above the only thing you get with higher K ranges is a color change. The light output or LUMENS is less then what you would get with a lower K range.
Now you said it will cost $$$ to get an HID kit. Think again. Under $300.

This is where you should purchase your HID kit from. Great service not to mention a LIFETIME WARRANTY on all their kits except for one.
Thank you so much for your help.. and the link.. Have you guys heard of Digital HID Kit from Xetronic? Xtralights.com Its suppose to disable the low beam warning component and actually give a digital light with no blur and less power.. am I a sucker for falling for such a thing... I get my tax money tomorrow.. and I am spending about $560 plus expedite shipping for this crap.. give me your opinion does it make a difference if the light is digital or not? I decided to go with the 6000k Diamon Blue.. I don't want to get any higher and blind people.
I hate car technical stuff... I just really want those lights so bad.. but, I want to protect my car too!!!

Get your HID kit from, http://www.sharphid.com/
And get the, APEXCONE 35 WATT for $280.
You wont regret it.
Um and the HID kit goes in the LOW beam spot not the HIGH beam.
Its only illegal if its in the wrong type of headlight housing...
I have the MTEC brand, the best thing about them "NO ERROR MESSAGES" when you put them in
.. and they only cost me 340$ with shipping...
With a lot of the other kits they usually cause a message to come on in the computer....
I personally got the 8000k mtec kit, my friend got the 6000k mtec and he liked mine better lol...

If you buy an HID aftermarket kit period it is ILLEGAL. They are techncally considered for OFF ROAD USE ONLY. Yes some car manufactuers put them in stock, 4300k. These are legal because they come from the factory they are OEM. But if your car didn't come with them and you put in the aftermarket ones then technically they are illegal period. No matter if they are 4300k or 30000k. Not that many cops will know that your Volvo didn't come with them, but the fact is aftermarket HID kits are illegal.
Also you mentioned the housing they are in. Some housings will give more glare then others yes. Meaning a more blinding light which isn't good. But it doesn't matter about the housing they are in. Mnay many Volvo owners have them in there 850's with stock housings and lenses. Some have them in 850's with stock housings and E-code lenses. Some have them in there 850's with the Jewel headlights, and some have them in their 850's with a projector retrofit setup.
Some have them in there 70 series with stock housings and stock lenses. Some have them in their 70 series with a stock housing and E-codes lenses, some have them in their 70 series with Jewel headlights and some even have them with the ABM/HOVA Projectors.
Then again others have put them in other Volvo models with stock housings and lenses.
