2000 S40 volvo wont crank but has power
I recently picked up a 2000 S40 Volvo and have some serious issues. The car seemed to be running fine. I stopped for gas and when I tried to start the car the starter would not engage. I wouldnt even try. I checked the fuses and replaced one that looked questionable that was labeled engine with no change. I pulled the starter and had it tested. Oriely's said it wouldn't respond at all. So I bought a new and installed it. It didn't make a difference. I have been searching the internet and haven't been able to find any information that describes an issue like this. So now my family and I are having some bigger issues about getting around (as I'm sure most people can relate).
I am in need of help and fast. I would appreciate any and all input. Thank you

I'm just now becoming familiar with what the immobilizer is. I have owned many different vehicles and haven't ever heard of it until last night. The vehicle didn't come with any manuals of any kind. I read that It may be as easy as pressing the lock unlock buttons five times on the key faub. Is there any type of truth to that? Could it be that? I have already checked and cleaned all of the connections and and am going to use a reliable tester.
Thanks for the replies.

I just had a problem similar to this not to long ago. My issue ended up being a bad fuel pump. One way to check is if its your fuel pump is to depressurize the system then crank several times. There is a valve on the fuel rail right before cylinder 1 injector. Grab a precision screwdriver and press down on the valve after removing the blue cap. If fuel rapidly comes out then it may be electrical, compression, or air. Hope this helps you.

First off, Thank you for all the help. I took the ignition apart and cleaned up the tumblers and springs. It seemed that what appears to be grease started to harden up and wouldn't allow the tumblers to move freely. Which in turn wouldn't let the ignition turn 100%. Then I took the shifter apart (the lever would slightly stick intermittently almost an immeasurable amount) and cleaned it up and had to file some sticking points down.
I got it done last night and worked so far. We will see....
